Concentration mastery - How to get in "THE ZONE"
We have all seen it.
Those athletes who seem to go into
a bubble of concentration when they focus on nothing but the job
in hand.
Nothing can disturb them.
Not themselves, the opposition, the
conditions, the crowd.
Everything seems so effortless for
them.
THEY
ARE IN "THE ZONE!"
Have you ever been in "THE ZONE!"?.
That place where you can do no wrong,
where all of your natural ability and trained skills come together
at the same time.
Let's look at how you can get it!
In order to perform at your peak we
have mentioned in previous articles that it will be your mindset
that determines whether this is achieved or not.
Your mindset and what you are focussing
on during your event will determine whether you get onto "THE
ZONE" and achieve your peak performance.
It is not something that you can turn
on and off like a tap. It is a state of mind that happens because
you are focussing your attention and energy on certain things.
It is easiest to attain when:
- You are relaxed
- You allow it to come naturally
and it is not forced
- You are paying full attention to
the performance and you are not being self-critical or analysing
errors, techniques or mechanics.
- Nothing distracts you and you have
this under control
- Your ability is well matched to
the contest in hand
- Your ability is not greater than
those of the competition so that you become bored and lose focus
and concentration
- You are thinking positive thoughts
and have blocked out negative comments and thoughts.
- You are not trying to impress others
or showing off
- You are not trying too hard to
win
- You are playing the contest and
not trying to intimidate or harm an opponent and thus lose focus
- You are not trying too hard to
get into "THE ZONE"
Remain focused
Focus is all about what you are giving
your undivided attention to at any one time.
There are loads of irrelevant things
going on around a sporting event. The art of remaining focused is
about cutting through all
