Sporting confidence

Being confident in sport, like life, is so vital for success.

It is without doubt one of the most important things you can have.

Confidence gives you that edge over the rest, it gives you the ability to take risks and not to be scared of failure.

Confidence gives you that mindset that no matter what, you will win.

Just think of any top athlete that you know.

Whether it be Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan or Michael Johnson, they all have that air of invincibility.

Do you think they ever think of failure?

I bet you're going to say NO. But I bet they do!

The difference between them and you is that they appreciate this trigger and know how to instantly deal with it.

They have learned techniques to be able to be in a peak performance week in week out.

Sure they think of winning more than losing but they wouldn't be human if an odd doubt didn't pop into their head every now and again!

No one is born with confidence. You just don't wake up one morning and you have it!

It is learned from an early stage in our childhood.

The good news is that you can learn to have confidence whenever you decide that you want more of it!

All of the sportsmen above use Sports Confidence techniques to give them they edge and the ones that we will teach you will do so also.

So what is sports confidence?

Well, confidence in sport should be based upon how your mindset is and how you feel when you go to perform your respective activity.

It is the feeling and expectation that:

  • You will perform up to your current ability and possibly beyond it.
  • You are expecting to do well because:
  • You are fully prepared
  • You have practised your sport and your skills
  • You know all about your sport and have a good knowledge of it
  • You know your strengths and weaknesses and have a game plan to maximise and minimise each one respectively
  • You are thinking only of successful outcomes
  • You are not frightened of taking a risk
  • You are not afraid of failure
  • You are thinking positively

What about negative self confidence in sport?

Sports-people who have low confidence levels may feel:

  • That they are never fully prepared - they could have always done with another week or match under their belt before they are ready
  • They are scared of taking a risk incase they fail.
  • They are thinking negatively and doubt their own talents and ability as they perform their sport
  • They feel that they are not good enough
  • They often lose concentration and focus on the job at hand
  • They do not have a gameplan or they have one but do not carry it out
  • You blame yourself for everything even if it is not your fault
  • You end up not enjoying your sport!
