Write with confidence
How to find your passion, get started,
and get going on the road to building your confidence and success
with writing.
Are you called to write?
Do you want to do it professionally?
There are tons of resources out on
the Internet to help you learn the tricks of the trade, but what
about building the confidence?
It you have the knack for writing
and your dream is to be published someday, how can you build your
confidence to pursue it?
Glad you asked.
Following are some ways you can build
your confidence and be what you already are-a writer!
Write something every day
Even if it's just a few lines each
day, write something.
You'll begin to discover something.
Some days you're really ON.
Some days you might think your pen
must be sick because what comes out isn't very good at all.
The lesson to be learned here is this:
no matter what, keep writing because when the mood or something
else strikes you, you'll find brilliance at the other end of the
pen you so often hold in your hand.
Think about what moves and inspires
you
What would be more motivating to you--writing
about the mating habits of Canada geese or a call to action regarding
the human condition in third world countries?
Perhaps it's neither of those, but
whatever it is tap into it and figure it out for yourself, then
start writing.
Take baby steps
So I thought I wanted to be a writer
and the very first article I wrote, I expected would naturally be
such a hit that Glamour and Cosmo and Good Housekeeping would all
be climbing over one another to reach up to me on my throne so they
could be the first to hand me their thousand dollar check to secure
their rights to publish it.
Wrong!
Didn't happen.
But, then I realized there's a science
to writing and getting published.
And it helps to know people who know
people.
So the learning here is don't be afraid
to start small-the big publishers will inevitably ask, "So,
are you published?"
Even if you can say you had an article
in the Local Fisher's Weekly, it's better than having to say "No."
Don't give up
This is most important.
Although I once wanted to kick a personal
friend because within one year her best selling book, her first,
was #1 nationwide, it may take longer than any of us would like.
So the moral of the story is keep
going, and never give up.
If you work hard enough at it, and
network enough around it, it will happen!
Good luck!
