Sing with confidence
3 big tips for singing with confidence
and letting the music move you.
Singing is one of the most beautiful
forms of expression.
It's also something we humans just
do-whether we're especially talented at it or not.
So, whether your singing is limited
to the confines of your shower area, or it happens to be your life's
work, following are some tips for singing with confidence.
First, take time to learn the words
Singing can be therapeutic.
Sometimes the simple messages conveyed
by a song can be moving, uplifting, enable us to vent, or shriek
with joy!
But what happens when we don't know
all the words?
We lose that energy during the refrains,
and then wait for the chorus to kick in. Y
ou can maintain that energy throughout
by learning all the words to the song, and really listening for
the meaning (assuming it says something other that doo doo doo doo,
da da da da, that's all I have to say to you).
Second, make it your own
The biggest lesson I ever learned
from many dollars spent on singing lessons was this: make every
song your own.
You don't have to sing like Janet
Jackson or Mariah Carey (can anyone?).
Take a song you like and change how
you sing it.
Make it suit your style and emphasize
what you want.
You an even buy background music and
test it out if you're interested enough to try!
Third, don't be shy
Moxy. Chutzpah. Daring.
Whatever you call it, sometimes it's
the one solitary thing that makes all the difference between someone
who makes it as a singer, and someone who doesn't.
So, if you don't just want to sing,
but you want to BE a singer, then figure out what it's going to
take for you to develop and convey that moxy!
Try desensitization-go out there and
just do it.
Do it over and over again until the
thrill of performance and applause outweighs the anxiety and nervousness.
Consider your talent a gift to others,
and give it freely and often.
